I was extremely disappointed with all of Episode I. To me, it was nothing but two hours of exposition leading up to Episode IV. I sorta dread II and III, since they’re going to have to play both ends against the middle, fitting in stuff we already know from I and IV.
I really really hope they just jump right to the Clone Wars, butif they’re filming in Tunisia, probably not
Jake Lloyd was also a muppet. We will not see that kid again.
I’m the last person to be scanning a mainstream movie for racism, and yet the Jar Jar character seemed to scream it right in my face. At the time, me and my fellow moviegoers looked at each other and said “How the Hell did they think they could do that?”
Aside from that, and all of his character “quirks”, I think the character of Jar Jar was a blatant attempt to make money from the kids. And Jesus, how I hate that shit.
jeez…where should I begin?
Um, how about “blatant marketing tactic a la the ewoks?”
I have no other deep issues about Jar Jar…he just grates and pulls me out of my suspension of disbelief.
The problem(s):
His irritating voice
The annoying lines he said
His personality
His stupidity
His clumsiness
His very existence.
On the other hand, my son (age 4 at the time) loves him.
I kind of like Jar Jar. I hope that the next two movies will establish why the character needed to be introduced into the series.
If it helps any, his role is greatly reduced in Episode II, he barely does anything, though he has been promoted.
The whole movie was a big disappointment.
Jar Jar was like the annoying guy sitting beside you who talks on his cel phone during the entire film. At least you can always grab the phone from the dork in the audience and toss it at the screen. When the flashpoint is actually in the film that you want to like, you can’t do anything.
I just hope Lucas is staying far, far away from II and III
