Can someone please explain this whole chicken sandwich thing?

Trouble with psychopaths is [del]we[/del] they look like everyone else until they’re wearing your skin.

First, I’m going to assume there’s some misplaced sarcasm in there (misplaced because I think the topic is serious enough to warrant a straight up rejection of lethal violence over violation of “social norms.”)

With that said… how would you announce your intention to kill the line cutter? Is there… any particular turn of phrase you might use? Inigo Montoya? Might you invite the so-called provocateur to… “prepare” for something?

It isn’t worth stabbing someone over, but Popeye’s is one fine chicken sandwich. Much better than Wendy’s could ever produce, and it edged out CFA in a side by side test we did last weekend. We have all of the chains local to us, so it was pretty easy to do.

 Too much thought required to look to the namesake. But maybe a classic line like, “Looks like meat’s back on the menu, boys!” Who knows, maybe I wouldn’t have to act alone if there are enough hungry, angry, ____gry nerds in line with me.

But we seem to differ on what’s too serious for humor/sarcasm. And that’s cool.

& a Coke.

For some, timing of a joke is always too soon or too late. I wonder sometimes if they’d be better off at musical.

Agreed. Even though support has grown over recent years, it looks like nearly 1 out of 3 people still disagree with gay marriage: Changing Attitudes on Same-Sex Marriage | Pew Research Center
Even with those who would say they support gay rights, they don’t necessarily care enough about the issue to boycott over it. Most people choose to eat at a restaurant based on if they like the food, not based on the owner’s political views, unless they are especially passionate about the issue.

The McRib actually is fucking delicious though.

Just how precise an amount do you think is described by “a lot?”

I get my chicken sandwiches at Bojangles. 100% stab free.

Little Debbie is too young to be wearing make up, the little slut!

Not a single person on the planet pretended this.

Are you actually ascribing a political stance—arguably the stance that has already lost politically, legally, and a majority of the public—related to one of the most controversial issues of our time to the “general public?”

Fast food chains are constantly introducing new products. If such success had been so easy to achieve, we would be experiencing a constant rate of junk food rage murders.

Yes, marketers try to achieve success. No, this kind of blockbuster success can’t be planned.

All social norms are enforced by violence.

The people in my household (excluding me) eat a lot of fried chicken. They brought home Popeye’s sandwiches the other night. Fried food on soft white buns is not my thing, but it was actually pretty good, certainly better than the chemical-tasting Chick-Fil-A (and without the right-wing issue).

I read a business report on this and they did actually mess up. They had what they projected would last 7 weeks. They sold it all in less than 2. It wasn’t “several months” (about 2) but if you think about it, the batter has to be Popeye’s recipe so there are other supply streams involved. When you think about how many restaurants they have and now they have to basically quadruple the estimated demand that is a lot of chicken and batter to get specially prepared on short notice. I don’t know if the chicken comes in pre-battered and frozen or not.

I’d bet there is an analyst that used to work at Popeye’s now looking for work. In hindsight it may have worked out well for the company but he/she is really bad at forecasting.

I drive by a Popeye’s on my way to and from work and today when I drove by around 2 was the first time the drive thru wasn’t backed up into the street. I tried a couple the first time around (both spicy and regular) and I thought they were way better than CFA and Wendy’s.

What I read in the Wall Street Journal is that there was a supply chain issue in regards to sourcing both the brioche buns they use and the chicken breast (which is apparently from a smaller sized chicken.) They went through what they thought would be three months of product in 14 days. I don’t get the sense this was a marketing ploy at all. By all accounts, it actually is a really good chicken sandwich that seems to be loved by consumers and critics alike, as opposed to other “limited time” items like the McRib (which, as we see in this thread, some people love, but I find a really awful fast food item, and I’ve been influenced into buying it a few times because of the limited availability, only to regret my purchase and only learn after about three years in a row of this.) I don’t see any incentive for Popeye’s to keep the chicken off the menu for that long, when they could have steadily been making money on it in the two months off the menu.

Pretty much what I had read. A royal screw up that may have turned out ok for them.

And as far as the McRib goes… I ate one and that will be enough to satisfy me for life. I can say I have tried one.

The sandwich in question… if the line isn’t backed up I’ll probably get another tomorrow.

This has nothing to do with timing, and everything to do with the forum. Sarcasm doesn’t translate as well in written communication.

I believe Chicken Fingers is probably the authority on this topic. Case closed!
