Can stage prop gun ammo be safely fired in a real gun?

9mmPAK (blank) ammo is 9x22mm and is used in blank firing guns that cannot be modified to shoot live 9X19mm Parabellum/Luger ammunition.

But can one safely fire 9mmPAK ammo in a regular 9mm pistol? I would think the only issue would be the slide wouldn’t cycle due to lack of pressure.
But would the additional 3mm of length of the case cause any safety issues?

Seems unlikely that stage ammo could be fired from a regular gun. They wouldn’t want anyone using a real gun at the theater or on set.

The safety protocols call for a stage pistol and stage ammo.

The 3mm is intended to prevent use in regular firearms.

From here.

Real 9mm pistols headspace on the rim of the cartridge. So a round with a 22mm length would not chamber in a 9mm luger chamber. 9mm luger, also known as 9x19 and 9mm parabellum, has a 19mm case length.

Correct, it will not cycle. They do make blank adapters for rifles, and many blank rounds will fire in actual firearms, just not the caliber you mention.

I think you mean the mouth, as the previous post says. 9x19mm is rimless. Rim-headspacing rounds typically are found in revolvers (except clipped ones), and thus are better at tolerating variations in length.

Yes, you’re correct. That happens when you do two things at once.
