Can we agree that the worst decade for popular music was the 1970s?

Thanks for putting that particular earworm in my head.

Some already mentioned, but 70’s releases by Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, and the Scorpions influenced a genre which came into its own in the early 80’s.

Music from the 70’s which still hits my playlist:
UFO: Stranger in the Night
Aerosmith: Toys in the Attic
Allman Brothers Band: Fillmore East, and Eat a Peach
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Damn the Torpedoes
Black Sabbath: Paranoid
Rolling Stones: Some Girls
Skynyrd: Street Survivors

The 70’s most definitely had its musical moments.

Hell, it had the development of Rush. And I’ve seen them cited as influences on a godawful number of bands from Dream Theatre to Smashing Pumpkins.

At least in terms of structure and some lyrics, the music’s relatively the same across several decades. That is, a few minutes and bars, melodies and beats that are easy to follow, etc.

No doubt. His rant and race against Gabe Kaplan is immortalized here. You would think that Conrad would win, given how competitive he was, but Mr. Kotter frankly wiped the floor with him.

As Bill Simmons said, it was the reality TV equivalent of “USA 4, USSR 3.”
