Can we bill the Bin Laden family for the cost of the Iraq war?

This is probably the stupid GD premise I’ve ever seen.

Why don’t we bill Canada? There are probably one or two Saudi nationals there, so this whole thing must be their fault.

Seriously, though, the problem with freezing other peoples’ assets in domestic banks is that the logical response is for foreign banks to start freezing your assets. Then, as an economy, we’re screwed.

Happy?

If Canada had any money, they would not be living in America’s attic.

Why not sue whoever built the World Trade Center? Hey, dumbasses-- way to attract terrorists!

The Bush family has serious assets doesn’t it?

Jenna, the other one…

Depends how you define assets. What’s 5/9 of the Supreme Court worth to you?

Seriously, though, W is worth between 9 and 30 million dollars, depending on who you ask. He was “given” a 10% stake in the Texas Rangers worth ~$12-15 million at the time for his role in organizing the investment group which bought the team.

Senior disclosed a net worth of only $3 million when he ran for President in '87, but there’s obviously a lot of speculation that this figure involved lots of number-fudging.

Saudi Arabia could not exist without a benefactor. The easiest way to crush them would be sanctions. There is no point in going after the Bin Ladens unless we go after all of the Saudis and Qatar too while we’re at it. The big secret that’s not really a secret is that our enemies are the Wahabis, pretty much all of them.

We can’t attack Saudi Arabia because the thing that would unite the world’s Muslims the fastest is infidel troops occupying Mecca.

Well Bush Sr would have been a lot wealthier if he had stayed as CEO of Zapata oil. He gave that up for Politics. It’s not really about the money he controls but the money his friends control and which favors he can pull. How rich are his vassals?
Heh. Wouldn’t it be more fair to bill the Bushes?
Yes, I do like your idea. I figured the Bin Ladens had deeper pockets, but that’s no reason to exclude the Bush family.
Do you really think that Saudi Arabia could successfully defend against a US invasion?(snip)
Awesome idea, really! Then all we have to do is occupy them and collect our rewards. Nothing in our past history indicates that conquering and occupying a Middle Eastern nation will be anything but a cakewalk.

Considering the motivaton, I don’t think Saudi Arabia would have been the only people you’d have to fight against if you tried. Then again, maybe. shrug

It’ll never work. We’ve been garnishing half of Frank Hitler’s salary for years and it’s barely begun to pay for World War II.
Would it be enough to pay for the Iraq war?

I haven’t checked lately but the figures tend to be in the 6-12 billion dollars per month range. So maybe we could milk a couple free months out of it.
Among the several levels of illogic piled upon one another here, I’m still stuck on why we might possibly find a family financially responsible for the actions taken by an adult member of that family without any family support.
Iterestingly, however, it is pretty much an open secret that Osama bin Laden had the support of highly placed members of the Saud royal family, right up until 9/11, even though THEY and not the US were the real target of Osama’s wrath. Possibly there was support after 9/11 from some quarters, but if so, in great secrecy.

Now, THOSE people have some money!

'Course, most members of the Saud royalty nowadays would love to kill bin Laden if they could safely do so.
