We’re moving the family from T-Mobile to Verizon. I got the prices and all that. Is there any negotiating possible before I sign?
Yes. Well, in theory at least. I also recently moved from T-Mobile, and I did some cell phone shopping. All carriers will haggle a little bit with you, and it might also depend on the store itself, too. I ended up going along with Sprint.
- I stopped into the Verizon place on a slow day, talked to a saleswoman, she said I could get some money off of a couple of phones (I was bringing three lines over, unlimited calling) and gave me her contact information if I had any questions. I took the soft offer I had and used that against AT&T, but their pricing was $50/month more than the next most expensive carrier and would work on the non-iPhone prices with me, so they were out. I ended up shooting that woman an email, asking for some kind of offer, and I never heard anything back, even though I told her I planned on emailing her and she gave me her contact information. That and a friend of a friend works for Sprint and now I get 25% off my monthly bill.
If you have more lines that you’re bringing over, you have more weight to haggle. If it’s just you, then they really don’t/can’t make room.
Thanks for the input. I walked into two Verizon stores today and unfortunately, neither one was willing to budge at all.
There’s definitely negotiation on the price of the phones. My husband called CS and talked at length with a CSR who gave him makes and models, etc. that were offering rebates that would take the cost of the phones to zero. But he wanted to look at the phones before buying, so we went into a store. I went in with my kids to pick out phones and the agent told me that none of the phones were free. I asked again, and once again he said no.
Then my husband walked in, and I told him what the agent had said. My husband took out his little notebook and said, “According to Verizon, these phones are currently offering rebates.”
And lo and behold, the agent suddenly remembered those rebates!
So, my advice is to call and order the phones over the phone or internet if you have to. The in-store agents were very reticent to budge on the price. I guess they wanted that $50-150 instead of me.
As for the month-to-month pricing, if you qualify for a corporate discount, then you can get a percentage off. Otherwise, you’re probably stuck with their posted rates.
Thanks, I’ll try it this weekend.
