I rarely talked about her there (a quick search turned up about 5 posts) and I don’t believe I ever interacted with her here before that one thread I linked to where I was given one of Sven’s patented condescending lectures. It’s not that people are egging each other on, it’s that she’s going out of her way to be a douchebag and it pisses people off.
Also, given how much you hung at the Snackpit AND how much you snarked on Dopers on the old Dumbo board, this really is a “pot/kettle/black” situation. Are you a “nonny with a name attached” too?
Kinda my take on it as well. I’ve only gone “there” a couple times, years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever posted over there and I certainly don’t run over there to snark about the people here (which BTW I think is the height of pussyhood). I also don’t PM snark (hell I think I’ve only sent a few PMs total for that matter) I also don’t go over there because that’s where the ubber assholes that got banned here go.
I don’t know if she goes “out of her way” but her style and more importantly the vibe it gives off ain’t doing her any favors in the reputation department around these here parts.
I don’t think international adoptions need to be banned, but these aren’t just a few shady local NGOs. What pisses me off is not just trafficking kids (yeah, duh, obviously wrong) but that overseas (Western) NGOs are often involved- either by not doing their homework, or by purposefully overlooking “irregularities” or by just not giving a fuck and stealing kids because they feel like it. Often we are talking about cowboy aid, where someone with some idea in thier head goes out to someplace with fewer regulations to make it happen , without any real consideration of the ethics and reprecussions of what they are doing beyond their own single minded “vision” or “faith.” Think Kony 2012.
We have always against trafficking in stolen goods from other countries, even if you swear up and down you had no idea they were stolen. If IBM was kidnapping people, there would be a problem. Well, your little mom’n’pop NGO should have a big problem if this happens as well. And if you are doing business with a shady mom’n’pop NGO and it’s pretty clear that something isn’t adding up, you should also have some consequences.
The Western NGO trafficking children from Chad to France shut down critical aid access in some regions for quite some time during a crtical period where Chad had serious nrefugee needs. These incidents spread anger and distrust that fuels conflict, blocks critical help, and puts aid workers at risk.

What grudges? Who has these grudges? I am not being disingenuous; this is not bullshit. I don’t speak for Fenris–or he for me. We didn’t hold a cabal earlier and decide to prey upon even sven today and someone else tomorrow.
I spoke my mind and I’m done. I don’t have a spreadsheet of people who irritate me on the Dope or the GB (there are any number on both, just so you know).
Perhaps the OP should have THOUGHT about what she was posting prior to doing so. As has been pointed out, stealing babies is frowned upon and rightly so. This is so obvious as to be astonishing. That drew my attention, and it drew mockery from almost all readers-how could it not? The whole “orphans with parents nearby” absolutely delighted me, but probably not the way the OP intended. I find it a ironic that sven is all worked up about African and Asian babies, but gives not a thought to American babies and kids who are cruelly neglected probably right in her own home town, but that’s another thread.

As you know (assuming a lot here, but I’ll risk it), I pretty much live and let live. But I’ll go toe to toe with anyone who labels me incorrectly. I am not a Nonny, never have been, never will be. I have no respect for the losers in the SnarkPit who are so passive-aggressive they can’t bear to own their disparagement.
I’d like to see sven dial down the condescension and relate her experiences, which I’m sure are interesting. Sadly, I doubt that’ll happen. People don’t change and her audience here has become hostile to her tales. (but mind you, they didn’t start out that way).

I have no truck with sven, other than this world-weary poseur attitude re 3rd world countries. I wish her well in her endeavors. Indeed, I can’t think of any other post (I count the J Peterman Dating thread as part of Global Citizen schtick), where I have criticized or even noticed her. That is NOT snark, that is genuinely meant.
You quite concisely and clearly rebut my admittedly over the top solution. However, after several more paragraphs we still have no clarification of what you think could or should be done about the problem.

There should have just been a bunch of jokes about how the judge from Chad scored the OP a 9.9, while all rest gave it 4’s.
As for banning international adoptions? I don’t think it would ever happen. Just as I don’t think people becoming enlightened enough to not take advantage of the process will ever happen either. Somewhere in the middle is the answer. More restrictions and more oversight. The complaint will be that it means it will cost more. Oh well. As perfectparanoia pointed out, the unintended consequence will be that more needy kids from within our own borders will find families to adopt them.
The snark stuff is kind of boring, but it’s interesting to find out that orphanages are in some places (Chad?) and used to be in others, basically free 24 hour daycare that parents could drop kids off and pick up again anytime. I don’t quite buy it, but it’s interesting.
Think of it more as a no-fee boarding school. You don’t just swoop in and out when you feel like it, but you can certainly arrange for weekend visits or switch things up if your situation changes. Often they are funded by a church, where they provide a tangible community benefit (hey, if you die, your kids won’t starve on the streets!) and plenty of fresh young souls to give a religious education to.
I spent a week at an orphanage in Guatemala where my mom was working. They ran a school, and the place was a mix of day students, paying boarding students and orphanage students. The operation was funded by a number of small businesses- a pig farm, a youth hostel and restaurant (not on the property itself), and various farming plots. In return for the land they used, they provided schooling for the Mayan village near by. As the kids hit their teens, they would be trained to work in these businesses and offered a job for as long as they needed it.
