Can we now, finally, chew the lying stripper a new one?

I’m not sure what point you are trying to make here. What does a video have to do with anything? There was no attack. There was no rape. There was no sex, consentual or non-consentual.

Two of these guys were suspended from school. At least one of them had a job offer withdrawn. There were people walking around with banners calling for their castration. Even if their parents were well-off, I very seriously doubt they had a couple of million just lying around to hand to a legal team. These guys had their names and faces splashed all over newspapers and magazines around the country, while Crystal Magnum’s identity was given the traditional protection given to the identity of sexual assault victims.

You really don’t think this has changed their lives? I won’t say “ruined” because I can’t see into the future, but it will affect them for years to come.

To borrow from the Master, Nifong’s statement is to bullshit what Stonehenge is to rocks. I mean, taking just one sentence:

“To the extent that I made judgements that ultimately proved to be incorrect,…” – No, asswipe, you did not make an honest error in judgment, as that statement implies. You committed the crime of conspiring to conceal evidence to which the defense was clearly entitled.

“…I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused.” – Ah, yes; if the passive voice did not exist, lowlife sleazeballs like Nifong would have to invent it. The bogus accusations did not just spontaneously happen, like a thunderstorm or an earthquake; they were made by one sleazeball and sustained by another sleazeball (the latter one would be you, Mr. Nifong).

Actually the part where you’re mistaken is that you use the word ‘victim’.

The only victims that exist in this case are the three young men who were the target of a false-accusation fueled witch hunt.

Crystal Mangum was neither a victim nor a willing participant because the events that she claimed never happened. You do realize that you can’t have a victim when there is no crime, correct?

And still is being referred to in all the mainstream media that I’ve seen as ‘the accuser’. Her real name is, as far as media outlets go, buried.

What happened up there with the e-mail address? Is it all because I thought the writer was an guy, rather than a girl?

Exactly. My pointing out to you that you had the gender wrong, made Fluiddruid think that I was using my awesome powers to incite the mobs of SDMB posters to write e mails to her.
Obviously fluiddruid has way over estimated my powers here on the dope.

Ouch!

Nice.

Actually, I got Jemele address from the web site, not from the post, I did look for myself. However, your point is correct, he shouldn’t have posted the email address.

w.

catsix, SnakesCatLady, the victim I referred to was in a hypothetical scenario I used in a previous post. I said even if you had video of the three lads gang raping the stripper, their lives would not be ruined because you would have a hypothetical victim who would be torn apart by a good high priced lawyer.

One had a job offer withdrawn- that only leaves a thousand other jobs. Do any of these three even need a job? Let’s just say if I were their age I would trade places with them even if the charges were not dropped yet. Their society is not going to abandon them, guilty or innocent, crime or no crime. Trust me, what people on a message board think is not reality for them- I would bet they were not disowned by anyone in their circle. Their parents, family, friends all stood behind them. I just find it a bit silly to feel sorrow or outrage for these “poor” “kids”. What happened was wrong, but will not hurt them at all, and if they were guilty, would not hurt them much. Again, did a rape trial affect William Kennedy Smith in any way? Same thing here. Has his life gone to hell? Is he not now pretty much what he always would have been?

For the sake of not hijacking this thread further, I ask that you take further discussion of my moderator action to the new thread already created on this topic. Thanks.

Do we know HOW privileged these kids are? I mean I keep seeing it tossed around like it is a given they are from wealthy families have swimming pools filled with champagne and a new car for each day of the week, but is there anything more factual? I am not meaning to say it matters at all, privilege and class does not allow you to be used as a personal vendetta by some rogue prosecuter. I am just curious.

According to this, very very wealthy.

Oh yea, a median income of $148k/ year puts them in the Donald Trump class.

And why does it matter, anyway? I come from a similar neighborhood. I got to tell you there’s a huge difference between “well off” and “wealthy”. If such a thing had happened to me in college, yea, my dad prolly could have raised a couple of hundred thousand dollars to hire a lawyer, but it would have wrecked his retirement, gutted his investments and cost him the equity in his home that he worked so hard for.

One of three is a gay-basher, not relevant here, but interesting. Any sympathy should go out the window after reading that.

You are so right-and a vindictive guy like Nifong can walk away from the wreckage he created, and excuse himself by saying “I believed the plaintiff”. I just hope Nifong spends the rest of his life defending himself in court, and every drop of his savings are spent on lawyer’s bills.

Except he’s not. He called a guy a fag and got in a fight in a bar. Unlike you, I don’t jump to conclusions to vilify someone without taking the time to get the facts first. Here, read all about it in the Washington Blade, link, a local gay newspaper which is the least likely media source I can think of to gloss over or conceal the nature of a gay bashing incident. If you skip over the psychobabble in the first section, you’ll find:

Wanna jump to another conclusion, champ, or would you care to, oh, I dunno, read up on the case and argue from a position of knowledge and not just pull things out of your ass?

So, if I can figure out Wee Bairn’s point, it’s that anyone with an income of over $148,000 a year cannot be successfully prosecuted for rape.

Is that it?

Damn straight! Let’s give the lying whore a parade now for being able to bring these horrible, horrible homophobic multi-millionaires down a peg or two! Thank God we have sensible heads telling us that when a stunning miscarriage of justice occurs, we shouldn’t feel sympathy because the word fag was used by one of them (thereby negating any goodwill toward the others) and their parents have good jobs. My God, I’ve been blind.

His reasoning for the assertion that these kids would be fine if there was a video of them gang raping her is that a Kennedy was acquitted of a rape charge. I wouldn’t expect logic.

I think it’s more a case of anyone who earns more than Wee Brain deserves to be prosecuted for something because they can afford it and they have probably done something to deserve it anyway and if they didn’t do it, whatever they did do to be in a possition to be earning that much was probably bad enough.

Geez, this’ll teach me to post in the pit:

My two errors came from the same ESPN article.

Jeffrey Bloxgom said Finnerty and two of his high school teammates hurled anti-gay insults and punched him repeatedly.

Now from reading other articles, it seems ESPN stretched the truth a bit. Or a lot.

**They grew up in privileged surroundings in the suburbs of New York City.

Collin Finnerty, 19, of Long Island and Reade Seligmann, 20, of New Jersey both come from a world of golf courses and multimillion-dollar homes and were educated at exclusive all-boys Catholic prep schools.**

but they only add at the very end that one of them had a house that was not lavish, but “surrounded” by lavish homes. A bit deceptive.

So I did read, but a biased article. I retract my earlier snarky post. And I will learn to be sure of my sources before posting in the pit.
