Can we now, finally, chew the lying stripper a new one?

Son, take a few lessons in kowtowing to Angry Studies professors and there could be a bright future for you in university administration.

Yes I’ve heard of cases like that but do they ever go back and re-investigate the case to see why the person was convicted? Every case can’t be mistaken identity. There have to be some cases where witnesses lied or a prosecutor or police withheld evidence.

“Angry Studies”…oh, that’s going in the quote book. I love it!

I like the ESPN guy’s parallel to the Imus issue. What Imus did is mere child’s play compared to what Mangum and Nifong did to the Duke lacrosse players.

Let’s try that again.

“To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused.”

Nice.

I admit I have tons of respect for the Attorney General. Rather than say “Due to lack of evidence, the charges have been dropped” or some such, the AG stated unequivocally that the LAX players were “innocent”.

“…based on the significant inconsistencies between the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges.” Cooper stated that his own investigation “led us to the conclusion that no attack occurred.”

Will Mangum apologize?

Heck, will Jesse Jackson and the New Black Panthers apologize?

Ah Hub, better go back and look at that ESPN page again

Absent any corroborating evidence, we certainly shouldn’t trust them to the point where we ruin somebody’s life. “People will get screwed” is a pretty glib attitude.

Thanks for the link, I sent a quick email to Jemele Hill thanking her for her public honesty. She rocks!

I guess I was unclear by what you meant by “undue scrutiny”. By the way, I was polite to you even though this was the Pit, but since you feel like being an asshole, go ahead and fuck off.

Marc

You might be thinking of Jason Whitlock, who no longer works for ESPN.

Editorial Cartoon about the case.

I know if I was convicted of a previous crime under this DA, I would be calling for my immediate release, or at least a review of my case.

The three lads were wronged, no doubt, but their lives would not have been ruined even if you had videotape of them gang raping the chick. They are privileged, and their society would not allow them to be ruined in the same way as a regular person. They would still get into med school, still become doctors, etc. Is William Kennedy Smith ruined? Until he was jailed, was Michael Skakel ruined?

That wasn’t a call to action. That was the name of the writer for ESPN’s Page 2, that also happened to have her email address.

Yeesh.

I guess “go fuck yourself with Paris Hilton’s mascara brush” is out, then.

So, what was the purpose of having an email address listed, if not for the purposes of contacting someone (as indeed was done)?

I realize the response was positive, but notwithstanding, if users would like to contact an individual regarding the topic of a thread, they should look for themselves. Posting contact information in these cases is not allowed.

Fluiddruid Rather than de-railing this train wreck any further, perhaps you would be so kind as to step over here.

Wait, are you high? If a video existed of them gang raping the chick, they’d go to jail for 20 years. That’ll ruin your life all right.

I assume he just cut-and-pasted the bottom line from ESPN. ONE PERSON said that he decided to email the writer. Big deal. At the very least, you could have kept the columnist’s freaking name, as that was the ONLY point of that post.

Not automatically in the case- we have a stripper who will be called a prostitute and the attorney will destroy her credibility- cf the DA’s proposed witness credibility attack in the Kobe Bryant case. That was enough to scare the girl into not testifying. Add to that a victim who based on all accounts in not credible in general- any decent lawyer would tear her apart. They would say she was a willing participant, and on and on, planting reasonable doubt. They might get a lesser charge at most, a year or two, and be hailed as victims in their world when they get out.
