Just don’t say anything while watching. I especially suggest avoiding any references to ‘nappy headed hos’.
-Joe,
Just don’t say anything while watching. I especially suggest avoiding any references to ‘nappy headed hos’.
-Joe,
I think it was way too late for that a long, long time ago. She lied and continued to do so for almost a year. Has she ever told the truth? If so, I’ve never heard of it.
Apparently some of us don’t think it should be accepted as a given that there will be false accusations.
Bolding mine. By the spirit of the law, if not the letter, she has not just committed a single act of misdemeanor false-reporting. She has instead, with her accomplice Dumbfuck Nifong, engaged in a continuing criminal conspiracy to, without basis, but under color of law, deprive three people of their civil rights. In the absence of her repeated and reiterated (if not consistent) additional lies after the initial false report, Dumbfuck Nifong could not have maintained the charges through this very day and the victims would have been exonerated much sooner (if not averted this crap completely).
No bit player, she.
Yay, justice has been done.
Now, hopefully the Lying Whore monstrosity can be permanently retired and never resurrected ever again.
I don’t know. If the charge was ever made public, it’d just look bad for the Duke players - like their parents’ money made it go away, or she felt threatened, or whatever. That’d give it undeserved legitimacy with some, or a lot of, people.
Justice is far from being done as long as Dumbfuck Nifong walks the streets and holds a law license, and as long as Lying Whore Crystal Mangum remains at large, and until the three victims are massively compensated for their ordeal.
But I admire your determination to close the book and learn nothing from this bullshit.
By the way, which part of the Lying Whore thread was a “monstrosity?” The OP correctly sussed out the true nature of Crystal Mangum and her accusations. I guess the monstrosity was when people attacked him for that? Other than that, I thought attacking execrable people and phenomena was exactly what the Pit was for.
Just because your team lost doesn’t mean the game should not have been played.
Wipe the spittle from your face and then talk to me like a human being, if you can. I have no “team” (such an offensive characterization when you think about it…justice is not a game, with winners and losers…I can only shake my head at that). But I can’t blame you for thinking otherwise. I’m a black woman after all, and you clearly have problems with that “ilk”.
Simmer down, is all I can say. Simma. Down.
::raises hand reluctantly::
I’m definitely guilty of taking the accusations at face value and very readily believing the allegations. Prejudice against male jocks on my part.
Your conception of justice is fatally flawed, if you think that in any way, shape, or form it has been achieved here. This statement reflects very poorly on you.
Sounds like a way extreme version of Calvin’s dad, perhaps?
Holy shit, Jurph, are you fucking serious?
::scratching head::
Explain to me how the dropped charges does not represent justice, Contra. If you don’t think the atheletes did anything wrong, that is a just outcome.
Or would you rather they go to trial?
Exactly. Shovelling snow in the freezing cold “builds character”. Having your college career ruined and much more besides is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
Can I just point out to everyone that’s completely worked up about this that (presumably) you are not involved in this situation? It could be said that it’s not worth your ire.
The American court system fucked up. Some people, driven by the media, got hysterical. Is this a surprise? There’s absolutely nothing unusual about this case other than the fact that the media latched on to it.
Well, for starters they are about five million actual dollars in the hole, and their accuser is judgment proof. They have been slandered countless times in the national media, and as yet no apology has been offered. They have lost a year of their lives to this outrage, at least one of them has had a job offer withdrawn, and their education has been put on hold, none of which would have happened at all if Nifong had not railroaded the defendants via a grand jury, thereby depriving them of a preliminary hearing which would have caused dismissal of all charges, as even at that stage, he had no evidence to produce and knew it.
This seems fair to you? Is this enough, or do you need more? There’s plenty.
No she’s not, as this thread and other threads have amply demonstrated. But legally, she can be held accountable for making false accusations. You know this, right? She can be prosecuted.
If you thought my praise of justice had anything to do with the sordid mess that got them to this place, then you’re obviously reading too much into my posts and you need to simmer down now, too. Pick an argument with me over something a bit more fight-worthy, please. Because the post you chatised me for ain’t it.
No, I don’t think the justice system is a game, and never said I did. I was referring instead to the “game” that is SDMB debate. The people who agreed with the OP (I did not, at first) “won” that game. The people who thought LWCM and Dumbfuck Nifong deserved more of a hearing for their stupid evil allegations lost. Certainly I would never suggest that Seligmann has “won” in his very-non-gamelike ordeal. This should have been obvious, since my position is that there should have been no prosecution to begin with – thus, that cannot have been the game to which I was referring as worth playing.
I have no problems with you on the basis of your race, your glib smear notwithstanding. I have a problem with your positions and the way you’ve expressed them. For all I know, you’re not really black or a woman, or the people who agreed with you are all white males, or the people who agreed with me are all black and Hispanic lesbians. Who knows, on the freaking Internets? Bricker suggested in the OP that you might want to revisit some of your earlier positions. I told him he’d hear lots of crickets chirping before that happened, and sure enough, your only coda to this f’d-up story is a breezy, dismissive, “well justice has been done, nothing to see here, no harm, no foul, move along.” I’d have a real problem with anyone, of any race, sex, or persuasion, so readily dismissing the OP (which was correct and made a relevant point for the Pit) and the subsequent colloquy as a “monstrosity.”
By judgment proof I mean that she has no assets, and even if a civil suit brought a monetary judgment against her, she has no ability to pay. Cite.
scratches head
So, when you said justice was done, you did not mean with respect to what has happened to these young men? What does a 'just outcome" mean then, if not that?
Simply disagreeing with you is “picking an argument?” Interesting.
I believe that if a person falsely accuses another of rape, and it is proven to be a false charge, the person bringing the false charge should receive whatever is the harshest sentance the rapist would have received.
It could, you’re right.
But isn’t that true of any Pit topic? We had a guy railing against his apartment’s laundry room – and I thought that was fine too, if that’s what’s bugging him today.
The charges against them have been dropped. Now they can go about putting their lives back to get together. To me, this is a good thing. Just because it should have never happened in the first place doesn’t mean this is not a just outcome. You’re reading too much into my words if you think I’m saying any more than that. I opened the thread and saw the link in the OP, and immediately thought “good”. Excuse me for being surprised that you’re taking issue with that.
Well, this is what you said:
That’s begging for an argument.
