Can we start calling each cunts in the pit again please?

I think enough time has passed that Ed and Lynn can save face by claiming it was an experiment and they are happy - pleased even! - to return to the status quo. Where inappropriate language is one again appropriate

What say you?

Duplicate thread, please report it thanks in advance

The other thread is closed now, so this one needs to stay open.

Good point. I’m such a cunt

I offer a compromise - we are all allowed to call Angry Lurker a cunt.

I however shall refrain.

Calling someone a labia is so pretentious.

Let’s not go overboard. You need to ease in to these sorts of things. Why don’t we start off by allowing ‘twat’ and seeing how things work out?

Yes, reversing that one decision will fix everything that is wrong with these boards, because not being allowed to use that one word was the reason two splinter boards were created.

So you’re saying the splits were over http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=split"]splits?

Not really.

Labium, you peasant.

Regards,
Shodan

Now now, not if he’s schizophrenic.

Bollocks aren’t you a proper guv. Knowing hows to spell all them highfalutin words.:stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a head giving you a raspberry. It is proper to give royalty the raspberry I believe. At least the other peasants do it when you leave.

Personally, I prefer the term “meat curtains.”

No.

This was not an “experiment” to please anyone’s ego, this was an attempt to remind people that there are limits, even in the Pit. That had always been in the Registration Agreement, but enforcement was uneven and it wasn’t clear where the limits were. Now it’s clearer, and we believe the boards are better for it.

Neither are we going to reverse the rules on racism, threats of violence, illegal acts, spam, links to pornography, etc.

If you are unable to conduct a discussion without using words like “cunt” and “nigger,” then perhaps you should seek other boards where such things are viewed as “appropriate” (using your word.)

It’s the “words like” thing that gets you. I keep telling my sister that when she says “gosh darn it”, there is no ethical difference than if she had said “God damn it”. The phonemes are different, but the sentiment from the heart is the same.

Why couldn’t you conduct such a discussion, then? Are you planning on leaving?

Also, I’ve been told time and time again around here that words have no fixed meaning, and that whatever meaning they have is dependent upon the intent of the speaker. Are you suggesting that certain words must always have a specific meaning? Can we get a list?

Please review the distinction between *use *and mention: Use–mention distinction - Wikipedia

It would be difficult indeed to conduct this discussion without mentioning the word that is its topic. It’s a fairly trivial exercise to avoid using it to describe another poster in this thread.

Can I use it to describe someone who is not a poster? Can I use it to describe the behavior of a poster? Can I use it to refer to the anatomy of a poster?

This is all covered in the sticky, which says the listed words “should not be directed at other posters.” It also says “don’t play games” with comparisons.
