 Jesus, man, what did I ever do to you, that you’d wish this on me?
I’ve got a lot of sympathy for the administration around here. I have no problem with requiring communication with them to meet some level of civility (assuming they’re willing to reciprocate). I couldn’t even handle being a mod on a busy messageboard, once my work life got busy. I don’t super-mind the no fuck-you band. I just think that that particular band does not accomplish its goals and isn’t useful.
Wittgenstein was a wonderful philosopher. His primary concern was the separation of language from the things that language expressed or identified. I think you’ll like him. He’s a good writer. No Hegel or Kant type weird stuff. Just straightforward talk, once he has defined his terms.
1.) It is okay to have arbitrary rules on a privately owned message board.
2.) If the reason behind a rule is “because I said so,” especially on a board full of people who absolutely love picking apart the logical fallacies in the arguments of others, don’t try to bullshit something else, and then accuse people of trolling when they demonstrate that you don’t have a leg to stand on.
3.) There is no excuse for a mod or admin to make ad hom attacks against posters outside of the Pit. I appreciate that board staff get stressed (believe me, I’ve been there), but apologies are still due when you step over the line, **especially **when you’re someone in a position of authority.
