Can You Be Scared Into Having A Heart Attack?

The Hulk Rollercoaster at Universal Studios (which goes 65MPH & upside down) has been shut down for 2 days. A 34 year old woman got on the ride & seemed fine and when the ride concluded they found she had had a heart attack. She is currently in the hospital on a resperator.

2 Independant contractors checked the ride and there were no complications found. Their determination is that it is a “guest issue”

The rollercoaster will reopen today.

Can you be so scared that you have a heart attack? 34 is awful young to have had one. Just thinking out loud…but don’t most rides have signs up “if you are pregnant, have heart trouble, have back trouble yada yada DON"T RIDE THIS RIDE”

So if she had previous heart trouble then she would have been alerted ahead of time.

I know rollercoaster scare the bejeebus out of me. I bet I would have a heart attack!

Unless they have had an “event”, lots of folks will wait until well after their 34th birthday before ever having their heart checked out via a stress test or the like. It’s very possible she might have had a pre-existing condition she was unaware of. The ride might have been the first thing ever significant enough to trigger a reaction.

There was a story just yesterday near my home, about a 15 year old who fell out of a raft during a whitewater rafting trip with her school, and she died of a ruptured aorta.

I’m pretty sure 15 year olds don’t go around thinking they should get their heart checked out.

IAMAD, but I would think that some/most heart attacks are because your body is scared, and panicking, and adrenaline increases your blood pressure, which increases the risk of rupturing an aorta, or that tiny tear becoming aortic dissection, or whatever. So, yeah, I would assume that you could be scared into having a heart attack. I figured all those jokes about not having surprise parties for elderly people weren’t just based on urban legends.

That’s it! No more letting people talk me into crazy rollercoaster rides.

Last year I took the kidlets to Universal and we waited nearly an hour in line for The Hulk Rollercoaster. Our turn finally came and I sat down and they put the bars over my lap. I started screaming “get me off this” I told the kidlets I just coulnd’t do it. I was content to watch them ride.

They eventually convinced me to ride “Ice & Fire” another rollercoaster where 2 seperate coasters cross over eachother and appears they will collide. I began screaming from the time the rollercoaster left the port until it stopped. Keeping my eyes closed the entire twisted turn. I guess I am just too old for adventure!
