Can you call the USA from England yet?

My friend in England (London) said she can’t call into the USA still after that Sept. 11th incident. This seems odd, has anyone else been able to?

Well, I just called your number but got the busy signal.

I bet you’re on that Internet thing again.

I received a call from an associate in Twickenham, 2 days ago.
“You’re dead. You’re all dead.” – Frank Sinatra

Got a call from the male porpentine on September 12th – lots of interference, disconnected several times. Haven’t heard from him since.

If this is true, he’s in SLIGHTLY less trouble than I thought. But not by much.

I’ve phoned the USA several times from London since Sep 11 with no problem.

I (in San Francisco at the time) received a phone call from Exeter on the evening of the 11th.

Oh, and in contrast to Fretful’s experience, the connection was so clear I actually commented to the person who made the call that she sounded as though she was next door to me rather than 8000 (?) miles away.

Hmmm. I better investigate this some more. thanks for the replies.

The day of the attack, I was able to make several phone calls from Barcelona to the California Bay Area with no troubles at all.

BTW, at a local store here in Monterey, Calif USA, you can buy a $10 phone card that lets you call England for 6 cents per minute (drives me batty using it since I can’t hear the que). Do they have such discount cards in the UK for calling the USA? What are the rates?

I’ve seen calling cards and discount companies offering something like 4p/min to the US. They’ve been around for ages.

Several hours after the attack, I was able to call a friend in Manhattan around 28th Street from here (Leipzig, Germany). No disruptions since, either.

After the attack, my client cancelled all transatlantic trips for the month. Since then, we’ve been surviving on transatlantic conference calls and video conferences to Manchester and Alderly park, from the 11th on, with no troubles connecting.
