Can you find files in Windows Vista this way?

Hi all,

Well, I HOPE there’s an answer to this question… it seems like there should be, but one never knows.

Obviously, Windows Vista has a “start search” function based on keywords located somewhere in the computer files. But is there any way to limit this search? For instance, let’s say that I need to find every instance everywhere on my computer of the use of the name “Satan.” Every time this name shows up, it can only refer to the instance of this one particular Satan I’m interested in (there not being references to any other random Satans in any file.) However, there are an awful lot of files containing “Satan”, because he was a popular character in a lot of my fics.

So can this search somehow be limited to specific named folders? It’s hard to believe it couldn’t be, but I really have no idea how this limited search would be done.

There are so many smart people here!! Surely someone must know? (looks around hopefully)

this is for Windows 7, but I think the search in Vista worked the same- can you try search filters?

ETA: or, you can go to the “Indexing Options” in the Control Panel and define what locations/folders you want the search to keep indexes (by default, the start menu search only looks at indexed locations.)

I THINK that this is working… thanks!! This was driving me nuts.
