The Codex Seraphinianus looks cool and I’d like a copy, I just don’t have $400.
Can you find it significantly cheaper? I don’t even care if it’s online or a ratty used photocopied edition.

I only paid $75 for my copy, but that was a lot of money for me in the early '80s.
amazon.co.uk has it for the equivalent of $125. Even with shipping that’s a good price.

Probably because it hasn’t had a U.S. edition published in nearly 20 years. And, based on the description of the book in the Wikipedia entry, I’m guessing that it wasn’t cheap when it was originally issued, either.
I recall wanting a copy when it was first published, and not having the $35. Now I’m sorry I didn’t pick up a dozen of them!
Obviously I would never condone other people torrenting, but within 90 seconds of reading the first post I was able to see Demonoid has two copies, one at 205 MB pdf, and the other with fewer seeds, a cbr at 149 MB.
I would imagine the OP has found one by now judging by the date, anyway…
