My SO wants to sell his old 1987 Bronco that’s been parked out on our street for months with no insurance. Recently he paid for the registration but they won’t give the sticker without insurance. It shouldn’t take long to sell so we don’t want to have to pay for a 6 month policy. Can you do that?
Sure. Get a six month poliiicy and cancel it when you sell the car. Check to make sure the insurance company will give you a refund. Mine does.
Some companies advertise monthly payments, presumably it’s also monthly coverage. Typically these are the outfits that specialize in the hard to insure, so the premiums are rather high.
Just add it to your policy. Then take it off when sold.
:smack: :smack: OMG! Duh! Haha! Good idea Reeder
Ask your broker or agent. They can probably arrange something.
I parked my old car for about eight months while I deliberated selling it or fixing it up. My broker advised me to keep fire and theft on it while it was laid up (which I had no problem with), while taking all other coverages off. He added that he could reinstate full coverage at any time if I fixed and kept it; or, if I wanted to sell it and needed short-term coverage to move it anywhere on public roads–for example, if I was going to deliver it to the buyer–he could put as little as a one-day full coverage policy on it.
So, if he could arrange a one-day policy, I’m sure a thirty-day one would also be available. But check with your broker or agent to find out for sure.
Talk to your insurance agent in Lothlorien Villas & see what they offer.
How come you paid for reg? Is that required for selling in Lothlorien Villas? My agent gives me 30 days of free insurance on any new car I buy.
That’s because I live in Lothlorien Villa’s not the Ghetto. So you must have current registration to park on the street.
Do you not have to have current registration to sell a vehicle?
Possible problem: In Georgia, there was talk of stopping insurance companies from doing this. Why? Some slimeball types would put a down payment on a policy in order to get their license plate/decal. They would then cancel the insurance and go for 11 months w/o insurance. There were supposed to change the law so that, when your policy was terminated (by choice or lack of payment), the insurance company was to report you to the police.
YMMV, of course.
