I’m a strong believer in the three things you never talk about in polite company (politics, religion, money), so this isn’t really an issue. My parents don’t even know my politics. If I run into somebody that insists on it, I take on a neutral, uninterested stance and try to change the subject as quickly as possible. This works on a vast majority of people.
