Can you help me get Cortana working in Windows 10?

I did the Windows 10 update today* and tried to use Cortana but the program doesn’t seem to be working correctly.

The program recognizes every word I say accurately, but always returns “something went wrong” in reply. Yet, if I type the words in instead of saying them, it does exactly what it should, no error message.

For example, if I say “Hey Cortana, set an alarm for five o’clock”, then it displays the text ‘set an alarm for five o’clock’ (which means it understood the words I said) but then only gives me the “something went wrong” error message in response.

Meanwhile if I instead type “set an alarm for five o’clock” it does exactly what I asked it to do.

Any ideas?

Again, it doesn’t seem to be a failure to recognize the words I’m saying, since it displays the words back to me and they are accurate. It seems, rather, to be unable to actually respond to voice commands, even though it can hear them accurately. Meanwhile, typed commands work fine.
