Shortly after Steve Jobs returned to the company. It was part of his rebranding the company, and also an admission that the rainbow logo was a nightmare for printers to get right.
I got it, but only after staring blankly into space for a couple seconds. It just goes to show that humans don’t have photographic memories - we know the apple logo is “white apple with bite and leaf,” but we can’t call up that image mentally. Luckily, it almost never matters.
I think the test is fine. It tested what they wanted to know. How good you predict you would be on the test was part of the test.
I thought I would get it right, then lost confidence when I saw how subtly different they were, but then I noticed that they all looked subtly wrong except for the last two in the last column. Then I noticed the leaf direction and then the one on the bottom suddenly looked wrong.
IF the variation had included angle or proportions, or would have all been designed by designers to still look balanced, I Think I would have had a harder time
Dammit, I thought it was a banana :smack:
I got it but probably only because, after recently watching The Imitation Game, my further research led me to this Interview with Rob Janoff, designer of the Apple logo. It was interesting enough for me to read the whole thing, and see the logo several times.
Darn, picked the wrong one - centre column, second row. Everything was right except the bite was on the wrong side. I was choosing based on flawed memory but also guessed on the symmetry, thinking it looked right if the leaf pointed away from the bite. Oh well.
I mentioned this page in this thread.
I’ll be more explicit: aside from the iPod Classic (RIP), I rather dislike Apple and all their hardware and software products. Despite that, I could recognize their logo, or would’ve been more clearly right if the correct logo wasn’t in a very distinct location (the location appears to be at least partially random). I knew the location of the bite and the bottom of the apple, while the leaf I was more than 50% sure of.
I picked the exact mirror image FWIW.
I got it right, which was a surprise to me as I do not own any Apple products and am not generally good at all at visual/spatial recognition things, including faces in addition to logos…
And no, it wasn’t “just a lucky guess” either! I was pretty sure I had the right one.
I do some design work too but don’t know which is correct. This is more like one of those kid’s “spot the difference” things. If you ask people, probably 90% would say the logo is an Apple with a bite out of it, but to remember if it has a tiny leaf, or which direction it points is being to specific. I’m sure no one knows how long the little flourish on the “C” in Coca-Cola is either.
ETA: I’ve never liked the arrow in the FedEx logo. If it’s on the right side of a vehicle, it’s pointing forward, but on the left side, it’s pointing backwards like “we left your package back at the warehouse.” I’ve never thought it very clever either, many fonts produce the same arrow and I always assumed it was done by accident until I read about it.
Same thing. I was pretty sure the bite was on the right side but I thought the leaf pointed the opposite way.
I got right, no problem. Bite on the right, stem points to the left, bumps on the bottom (ironically like a Red Delicious, not a Macintosh*!*) I’m not even much of an Apple person (PCs since before Windows 3.0!). But I’ve always had an eye for detail…
Your eye for detail missed that the stem points to the right.
And remember that the shape of the logo was determined several years before Jobs thought of the Macintosh.
Yeah, I just noticed that. But the test said I got it right so either the test was fake or I remembered the wrong logo afterward… :smack:
I did NOT look it up and I got it right.
However my Mini just happens to be sitting next to my screen so ----
I expect I would have gotten it right anyway but, yeah, my iMac has the logo right there just below eye level. Hard to avoid “peeking”.
Yeah, that ‘Did you cheat?’ question it asks before it gives you your answer made me suspicious. Like if you click ‘No, I didn’t cheat’ then it will say you were right no matter what just to fuck with your head (like it’s doing!)
It’d be a little embarrassing if I got it wrong, given that the spouse works at Apple.
Fortunately, I got it right.
Got it right through dumb luck, because I didn’t even notice the difference in the bumps on the bottom. Got the bite and the stem correct and picked one of the two that matched.
