I feel like making a shirt or two to help me harass my Republican friends around here, so I thought I’d grab a couple of shirts at Kohl’s or the sports store or whatever and come up with something clever to put on 'em.
My question is - can you print on those iron-on things in all white? I’ve done white shirts before by printing blue or black on the ironing things, but I never wear white t-shirts so I’m hoping you can go the other way and do white printing on a dark shirt.
You need something like this. Dark t-shirt transfers. They work with an ordinary inkjet printer, without reversing your design. What you see is what you get. You cut your design to size, peel the backing paper off, and have a thin sheet of what feels like rubbery plastic. Any part left un-inked is opaque white, so trim neatly, because if you’re careless, it’ll be obvious. You iron them onto the shirt under a thin piece of paper, print side up. The plasticky sheet melts into the surface of the fabric. Apparently they CAN smear as you’re ironing if you’re not careful, but I’ve used 'em 5 or 6 times and never had one turn out badly. They’re not reusable - if you want 2 shirts, you have to print 2 transfer sheets, though if your design is small enough, you could print them both on the same sheet and cut them apart.
They’re washable and the one I have hasn’t faded, though it does have some minor cracking.
