In Michigan, pretty much everything except sparklers are illegal. However, that doesn’t stop alot of people from driving down to Ohio and loading up on the good stuff. Every year, there’s a pretty impresive amateur fireworks display at the park down the street.
They’ve been illegal in Maryland (to buy or sell) for a long time – sparklers too. They used to be available around the 4th of July in D.C. – the vendors would set up their roadside stands right at the line and we’d drive over and get them. Don’t know if they still do. I can understand making the explosive varieties illegal but the snakes and sparklers? I thought the snakes were cool even though they left black marks on the pavement.
Hm. Maybe this has changed since I last looked at a fireworks booth (ten or so years ago), but my impression was that this was not a statewide law, but that most localities had such laws.
In my county, there is one town in which fireworks are legal to buy, sell, and use. Not sure of the level allowed, but I’m pretty sure that all “safe and sane” 'works are allowed, up to and including the smaller firecrackers. M-80’s, though, are illegal.
I’m thinking I might go out there with a couple of friends over the long weekend and make some noise. I’ll report back with details if and when I have them.
Okay, now most of you have said that, in general, it was illegal to set off fireworks in your municipality. (The cops not enforcing the law is not the same as it being legal). Here in Wimpsconsin (where a guy can’t have any fun 'cept get drunk) there are tons of stores selling fireworks year-round. But it’s illegal to light them off. From these post, I see this is the situation in 90% of the country. I repeat my second question: Who are those stores supposed to be selling to? We can buy/sell fireworks, but not light them up. Are our law makers trying to make us nuts?
I live in northern ohio. It is illegal to set off bottle rockets and fire crackers but you can buy them here you just have to sign a form that says you will take out of the state
Doob was talking about Piccolo Petes, a whistle, you could hit them with a hammer & they would make a boom. That was 70’s though, they redesigned them. Ground Bloom Flowers, though, a little alteration & you’re supposed to be able to get themt o fly.
