Many of the best-rated are made by Capresso. You really need to do your internet homework on coffee makers, as most of the complaints about the cheaper ones like Black & Decker, Mr. Coffee, etc., involve water leaks, which obviously is a bad thing for a coffee maker. Most of them are made in China, with the accompanying crappy construction.
Jesus Christ. $300?!
One of my chief complaints about my current maker (Hamilton Beach, 10-cup thermal carafe) is that every three or four brews, unpredictably, it will fail to drain into the carafe properly and puddle up around the base of the coffee maker. I’ve cleaned the carafe, lid, etc. It’s a big-time :mad:. The other is that 10 cups is not enough, most of the time.
It makes a GREAT pot of coffee, but it makes me want to throw it through a window occasionally.
Technically, the Chemex is the old new hotness, since it’s been around for years. The new new hotness is the Coava Kone filter. (Haven’t tried it, since my one-cup pourover thingie is working fine.)

If I hadn’t gotten it as a gift, I would have happily paid $300 for it, and it would have been the best $300 I ever spent. I guarantee you it’s worth more than four $75 pots and I’ll come back here and eat my words if it doesn’t outlast all of those $75 pots put together. Two years in and it still puts out 198° water every day and looks brand new. Best coffee I’ve ever had!
Another vote for the Cuisinart with the grinder.
Other than a little more trouble in cleaning, it has proven superior to every other coffeemaker Mrs. Inexplicable and I have owned.
Hamilton Beach makes a very good 12 cup coffee maker. I bought mine in 2007. Programmable. Doesn’t have the thermal carafe. We drink ours long before it goes stale anyway.
