I live in a small apt. and smoke quite a bit. During the summer, I run the exhaust feature on the A/C to clear the smoke out of the apt. Can I do this in the winter without hurting the A/C, since it doesn’t involve the cooling unit?
Is this central air? Are you asking if you can simply run the fan? Yes you can. (I’m not sure what you mean by "exhaust.)
That answers my question, thank you Contrapuntal. Exhaust blows air in from the top of the window unit and sucks air out from the bottom, thereby removing the smoke. It is used with fan only. I was just worried that the motor would produce heat in a cold case and cause a problem.
Are you takling about a window AC unit?
If so it is not removing smoke from the room. You would get the sam effect from a portable fan mixing the smokew with the room air.
