In general, what do you think of trailers/previews as guides for how a movie is going to be? I am thinking about this after seeing the preview for “The Alamo” this weekend. Boy did that look awful. So many cliches packed into one little trailer. In the recent past trailers have also turned me off to other movies (Last Samurai), but I begin to wonder, are they really a good way to judge whether you would enjoy the movie or not? What do other movie people out there think?
In some cases (The Alamo) it’s pretty telling, but sometimes a trailer doesn’t do a movie justice, and sometimes a bad movie can have a fairly compelling trailer. I’d say it’s a large part for prejudging a flick, but not everything.
Huh. I’d forgotten about the Alamo.
Judging by the trailer, I can’t tell how good a movie is going to be, but I can almost always decide whether it’s worth seeing. And The Alamo is most certainly not. (Then again, there might be someone who actually likes that sort of thing so YMMV.)
