If all my ancestors were murdered before they could produce offspring, there’s a strong chance that all or most of your ancestors met with the same fate (seeing as there’s a number of junctions and points in genealogies where a lot of folk came from only a few people), which means you wouldn’t have been able to put the question in the first place, and I wouldn’t have responded.
Seeing as none of this would have happened (the murderer/s could have been distantly related as well, therefore offing themselves to boot) – I don’t think anyone would have known or cared, really.
Well, I wouldn’t really be in a position to care, so I’m sure I could think of a number of worse things, if I use my own perception as a judge.
What about if everybody kin to your actual ancestors had been murdered (a la Keyser Sose) so that except for your direct lineage there was nobody kin to you?
Would that be better or worse?
The people I love right now being murdered would be far worse, imho, than not existing.
Really tho, why would all of my ancestors be murdered? If just one was murdered way back when, then all the rest since then wouldn’t exist. Either way, I wouldn’t be around to care.
I guess all = one or none, more like none. It’s probably unfair to label people who didn’t produce offspring as “ancestors” to start with. Bit of fallacy, I suspect.
But it is one of those things you can at least think about, whether much comes from it or not. Beats watching news reports about Britney Spears. At least for me. YMMV
I don’t particularly care one way or the other what my ancestors got up to.
For me, the mileage doesn’t vary on that point, mate. Gotta agree with you there.

I think having an ancestral line involving 100% incestral relationships would be up there on the top five “something worse” list, tho’.

That could be fun to trace. Every other generation is the offspring of the two before it. Like Grandfather impregnates granddaughter and that produces a boy and a girl who become father and mother of the next generation after the grandaughter. Might be best not to reuse their names so that things wouldn’t get confusing.

I have a friend whose parents met in a refugee camp after the war. Her father had lost his whole first family–wife & two kids–along with everybody else. Her mother, who was younger, had lost everybody except an aunt. So my friend has no aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. She had her two parents (both now dead) and two sisters. She has a couple of second cousins who live in Israel.
Oddly, none of them (my friend or her two siblings) had any children and now they’re all past their childbearing years. My friend married a guy with quite an extended family, though, so she does have the whole complement by marriage.
My uncle (bio-aunt’s husband) is the only child of two only children, whose parents were only children. So no brothers or sisters, no aunts or uncles, no great-aunts or uncles. His mother died about 10 years ago… the last relative. He is married and has two kids (and is recently a grandfather) so the line will continue, but basically, for his family, he was it. He spent a couple of years very depressed but he gets joy from his kids and grandson.
