Man, I find it hard to sit in front of the TV without something to eat. It’s like the little jingling bell to Pavlov’s dog. It doesn’t even matter what program’s on. Does everybody else find it basically impossible to watch TV without snacking? Or without keeping your hands busy with knitting or such-like?
It’s incredibly rare I eat whilst watching TV.
Knitting, yes. Eating, no.
I have to either eat or have a crossord puzzle in my hand.
Everything I watch is on tape, since I hate commercials and just have two tape recorders to deal with schedule conflicts.
Favorite foods are the one-hand snack type, popcorn and candy and cans of pop.
Or a hlf sandwich without drippy dressings.
But I will sometimes go for a TV dinner. Not a favorite, though, since every time I look down to cut my dinner I miss something visual and have to back up the tape.
Knitting, sewing, manicure, surfing the 'net - all done while watching TV. Not eating though. I read while I eat.
Well I live in a dorm room and keep minimum amounts of food in the room, so no I usually don’t watch TV and eat at the same time. When I was a kid I would ALWAYS read while eating though.
I wish I could smoke while watching TV though, but you can’t smoke in dorm rooms.
For the rare times I’m actually sitting infront of a TV, I have no problems doing nothing but watching the show. I may be drinking something, but unless the show happens to be on during dinner then I normally don’t eat.
However, much of the time I’m sitting at my computer, which has a USB TV tuner card. So it’s very easy to be doing a lot of other things at the same time: playing solitare. writing papers, reading up on the news during commercial breaks, etc. But, like when I’m sitting in front of the ‘real’ TV, I normally only eat if it’s meal time.

I have no problems watching TV without eating. Unfortunately, life as a single man has made me incapable of eating without watching TV.
I have to be doing something while watching TV. Sometimes that’s eating, but more often it’s knitting. If I don’t do something else I feel like I’m wasting time.
Yes, I can. What’s way more difficult for me is to sit still while watching TV.
Eating? Nope, but I have to have something to drink handy – usually just a glass of water.
Yes, I always feel the urge to eat when I sit down in front of the TV.
First line of defense: Knitting or some other handicraft. It keeps the hands occupied, it fights boredeom, and for some reason, it’s a significant psychological barrier knowing that I could have a snack, but I’m going to have to get up and wash my hands after eating before I can pick up the knitting again.
Second line of defense: A glass of water, diet soda, or tea. Most of the time when I feel munchy, I’m actually bored (see first line of defense) or thirsty.
My husband has to eat while watching t.v. Usually something nice and loud like tortilla chips.
I either crochet or drink tea while watching t.v.
One day, I too shall knit while doing something besides knitting.
I don’t have to do anything while watching TV, although I prefer to. I actually don’t like to watch TV that much - usually I end up grabbing a book or a crossword puzzle.
However, I can’t eat without doing SOMETHING. I can’t just sit at the table by myself and eat. I usually sit in front of the computer and eat.
What Priceguy said. Except I’m a woman.
The TV isn’t usually turned on until after dinner, so yeah, I can watch without eating, cuz I already et.
