Canada shits on multiculturalism

Hear Hear Rick Jay!

The truth is that Multiculturalism in Canada is not a failure merely because there was no vocal representation of each faith. I would like to see other examples of failures before I decide that our Government’s policies are not working.

As I stated before I have heard this argument disguised under many pretences before. The words you choose, grienspace, betray your feelings on this. If you thought the government was being hypocritical you would never have mentioned the funding nor would you.

Why don’t you come clean and simply state that you do not believe in our Governments policies regarding Multiculturalism and don’t like your tax dollars being used to fund this. We may not agree but at least you are being honest.

And as far as “spreading Bullshit” you completely missed the point I was bringing. If a religion defines a culture would the same be said for a person’s lack of religion? Probably not. And as shown by other posters a certain type of religion can span many cultures. (for example if you look at the Orthodox church you can not say that Russians and Greeks are the same culture.
Perhaps you should broaden your scope of culture.

So the religious representatives said nothing at the ceremony and it somehow means they were muzzled?

Have you spoken with them? It is entirely possible that they CHOSE to not speak so as to silently represent all faiths in Canada.

The whole idea that a culture is not a culture without religion is ridiculous. A group which shares common beliefs or values makes up a culture… that belief MAY be religion, but does not HAVE to be.

Deaf people in Canada and the United States have a common culture… Religion does not play a part at all… But it is an identifiable culture separate from the hearing culture.

I think the title and premise of this post is totally offensive to me as a Canadian and a Minister.

  • I think* in the spirit of avoiding offense, particularly with respect to the clergy, Canadians, (and myself) , I am withdrawing from this discussion, and the voice of my minority shall remain silenced for the greater good of all.

IOW:

“I cannot support any of the crap I’m saying, so I’m running like an escapee from a BSB concert.”

Lovely, greinspace. Juuuust lovely.

Damn, and just when I was about to put on my jerk hat as well.

FWIW, the most common term in the States is “Diversity”. From what I understand of Canadian national policy, it’s the same thing here, just done more piecemeal and with less official backing.

Carry on.
