Canadian Constitutional Crisis Update: Looks Like It's Blown Over

The Conservatives submitted a deficit-laden budget full of goodies, and the Liberals rolled over and bared their bellies. It appears they’ll break their coalition agreement with the NDP and separatists - both of whom refused to support the budget before they even knew what was in it - and vote for the budget.

Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff tore the Tories apart with ten minutes of vicious criticism, quite a lot of it deserved, but his only requirement for support is a largely meaningless requirement for “updates,” as if you can’t get that sort of information surfing the Internet.

Not a really great time in Canadian political history but at least it may soon be over. But I’m putting this in GD 'cause I’m sure there will be arguments.

Well, I’m disappointed in the budget, but I understand why Harper felt he had to give away the store.

I’m disappointed too…but it’s more because the goods went to the wrong places. I know that a deficit was going to happen but I’d rather it happen for better reasons. I pretty much agree with this Globe and Mail editorial.

The Liberals have no choice but to support this budget. I’m glad it’s out of the way and things can move on.

BTW, I can’t wait to save $750 when I buy a house.

Well, I’m sorry it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting rid of Mr. Harper. I really wanted him to pay the price for appointing senators while he was hiding behind the Governor General’s apron strings.

Still, having got that off my chest, let’s proceed forward in the spirit of multi-partisanship.

I would like to see Harper and the Conservatives abolishing the Senate or at least making it something worth paying money to have, but barring that, I can understand him trying to load it up with his cronies while he has the chance. Oh well, what the hell.
