Canadian Dopers - Have you run across this Canadian Tire weirdness before?

Another Canadian whose ran into the exact same issue here. Mine was a bit odd however, since I had some canadian tire money stuffed in my wallet, but it was 50 cent coupons versus the twenty odd cents they wanted, so they gave me canadian tire money back in “change”

Now, that’s an interesting idea, Nanoda - make them write on the receipt that the Canadian Tire “money” was refused, so I don’t have to play their bullshit little game when I return something.

What about people who just stuff their CTM in the charity box? Are they made aware that they will be taking that loss if they have to return items? Cause I sure didn’t know about this policy before.

I just found the receipt for the iron I bought at Canadian Tire a while back. Due to this thread, I took a good look at it. At the bottom of the receipt, where they’re explaining the return policy it says “CT money needed for full refund”.

Really? I don’t doubt you, but I’m having a hard time imagining it. (A Canadian Tire without hunting supplies? Whodathunkit?) I used to live in the GTA, and used to buy ammo occasionally at the CT at Leslie and Sheppard, when I lived nearby. Still, I understand that things have probably changed since, especially in Toronto.

As for returning the CT money when you get a refund, I just grab from the pile that accumulates in my kitchen drawer when I go to return something. When they say they need the CT money I got for the purchase, I pull out a wad and ask what they need. The clerk’s reaction is usually

(I never use the stuff. It just piles up.)
