Canadian Importing US handguns

APB online has an article about American handguns being Imported to Canada. Thought they just passed a law Banning them.
The article said that the officials were surprised at the numbers coming in to the country. Don’t understand this unless the people are telling the government something.
Or the US is getting rid of handguns this way.

That’s quite alright, its not like the Canadians know how to use them. Just kidding.

Its not that simple for american’s to get guns …

I heard about this on the radio this afternoon on the way home.

Canada and the US have lately made an agreement to more closely track the numbers of handguns being exported to Canada. There has been for some time a process in place for the export/import, but nobody was really watching to see how many guns were sold or to whom. Thus the surprise at the 100K-plus applications received.

In Canada, very few handgun licenses are issued, as the legal restrictions are quite tight. The concern, therefore, is that some Canadians may be reselling the guns to people or organizations that the US government will not allow gun manufacturers to sell to directly. Parallel case: US military vehicles (HUMVEE’s?) sold to Canada, later found in either Iran or Iraq (I disremember which it was).

A committee is a lifeform with six or more legs and no brain.

The article also we have dropped the ban on shipping them to England. They have banned everything. I don’t think you can own a slingshot there.

Jo3sh listens to NPR.

How would they know there is a gun in the package? Do people really put on the customs form, ‘used handguns?’

I thought the report was strange. You get a US export permit. Fill a semi with 10,000 guns. Show the export permit to US Customs. Drive across the border. Won’t the Canadian Customs want to see an import permit?

The report said the Canadians ASKED the US to stop granting export permits because they did not know where the guns ended up.

Why bother with a US export permit. Is getting guns out of the US the hardest part of smuggling them into Canada?

Did Canadian Law Enforcement really order 28,000 handguns?6,250 rifles &50,000,000 rounds of ammo. Thats what the article says.

That is a lot of arms.

Reminds me of when we sold arms to VietNam before & later they used them against us in the war.

That is 1/4 of the total exported. The number that law enforcement feels is necessary is amazing. It seems to me that if they disarm the citizenry then there will not be any reason for law enforcement to have weapons either. Sort of makes you wonder how much faith law enforcement has in this law.Not only that,if a weapon is taken care of it will last for many many years.
