[Canadopers] Two suspects in Air India trial have been found not guilty

Okay, with regard to racism having a significant effect on the investigation, I don’t buy it.

Of course that’s not to say that we don’t have a continuing problem with anti-indo attitudes – every time there’s a little bubble like asinine controversies over allowing turbans for RCMP officers or within the hallowed halls of the Canadian Legion, we’re reminded that the sort of prejudice that led to the Kamagata Maru fiasco still persists, if a lot more subtly.

I don’t think it had much to do with why the investigation was so thoroughly bolloxed, though – I think that had more to do with grudges between the RCMP and the shiny new CSIS. Still “us vs. them,” just a different “us” and “them.”

I was able to attend parts of the Air India trial, namely the days when engineers were explaining why the plane was delayed, so on and so forth.

Did you know that if the bombing had gone as planned, nobody would have been injured? The explosives would have detonated when the plane was on the ground? Crazy, but true-- it’s only because the flight was delayed while engineers strapped a spare engine onto the plane that Air India 182 blew up in mid-air.

As for why this whole thing was screwed up, I’ll chalk that up to the ever-so-fine boys at CSIS and the RCMP. Delete evidence tapes? What the hell was up with that?
