Canker sore sufferers, check this out

If you get these damned things a lot, then this will be neither mundane nor pointless.

I get a LOT of canker sores. At least a couple in my mouth at all times. I was recently clicking around the 'net and found a page which claimed that their toothpaste materially helped people with canker sores. Their claim was that almost all commercial toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate (a protein-eating detergent), and that theirs didn’t, and 70% of people who used their toothpaste stopped getting canker sores. I ordered some, figuring it was worth a try, but was skeptical.

It’s a little early to draw any conclusions, but I’ve been using the toothpaste for three weeks, and I have developed no new canker sores in that time. I have none in my mouth at all. If it continues like this, I will consider this a miracle.

If any of you are interested, the toothpaste is called “Enamel Saver.” Enter this on a search engine and you should easily find their website. $6 a tube, and worth every penny. No, I don’t own the company! These sores are so miserable, I wanted to spread the word around.

As a cheaper alternative, Tom’s of Maine natural toothpaste has no detergents either. The mint kind comes with flouride, but they have several flavors that do not. I like the fennel myself. If you are lucky enough to live near a Trader Joe’s store, you can get a big tube for less than $3.00. Most health food stores carry it at $4-$5.

Something else you may want to try is a mouthwash with a tea-tree oil. Swish it around a couple times a day.
