Title about says it all: 2 cans of Wilderness brand cherries. 2 cans of sugary cherry goodness, sitting on my top shelf for 2, or maybe three years. It seems like a crime to throw them out, yet, I shouldn’t care to poison myself, since I heard that botulisms are painful, or something like that.
So, may I eat them safely?
Best wishes,
hh
Properly-canned food should be good for decades at least. Even then, it’d go bad from the can itself degrading.
As long as the lid doesn’t go “pokka-pokka” (have any give to it) when you press down on it, you’re good to go.
Ah hell: I just realized that you weren’t talking about home-canned. Never mind.
should be fine, just check the cans for rust or any sign of the sides or top bulging out.
eta: also, if liquid spurts out when you open the cans, it’s a possible sign of botulism contamination
