I have a Canon VIXIA HFS100 video camera. I am using a SanDisk 32G card that is rated as class 10. I am pretty sure I have used this card before in this camera, but today the camera is complaining that it cannot record in the two high resolution modes (MXP, FXP) with this card. The manual says that it can record in these modes with a card that is class 4 or higher. I am able to use the card on the other resolutions.
I tried reformatting the card in the camera, but it didn’t help.
Is there something simple I’m missing, or did something corrupt the card and it’s toast?
I have that camera. I don’t have the latest firmware update, because Canon insists on having the customer mail the camera to them to install it instead of making the update available for download like everybody else I’ve ever bought tech stuff from. They’re probable afraid some moron would brick their camera by pulling out the SD card halfway though the update or something and then sue them.
That said, there’s no real reason to use class 10 cards – except for the fact that class 4 seems to be harder to come by as class 10 becomes the de facto standard.
This is certainly the problem, and perhaps I have not actually used this card in this camera before. I may have inadvertently swapped cards with my daughter’s Rebel. Thanks for that.
I remember buying what I could find on the shelf and there must not have been any class 4 cards out. I just remember I needed 4 or higher. And I think that you are wasting your time with a post that doesn’t address my question.
For anybody who still cares, I finally got around to getting the firmware update. The update for similar models (HF10/HF100/HF11/HG21/HG20) is a DIY job but for some reason this particular model (HF20/HF200/HF S10/HF S100) requires the camera to be sent to Canon for the update, as mentioned in post #4.
Canon paid for the shipping both ways and from the day I sent it to the day I had it back was about a week. Thanks to Canon for great support on what is now an older model.
