Tomorrow morning I have to get up at 2… that’s in less than 5 hours… but I’m a night person, so asking me to go to sleep at 9 is like telling your average person to sleep at noon. It ain’t gonna happen unless you’re real tired.
However, since I’ve got to get some sleep tonight, does anybody have any suggestions for how to knock myself out without alcohol or concussive shock?
I’m a night person too. What I try to do is tire myself out. Go out and walk or run around the block, pace around the house, just keep moving until the fatigue poisons begin to work their magic.
You aren’t getting to sleep tonight, so you might as well enjoy it. Rent a movie, or read a book, or do something that’s at least physically restful. Then, at 1:30am get a large supply of the caffeine vector of your choice, and get wired.
I thought this was going to be a “what do I to when I can’t sleep” thread. I can’t help you on falling asleep. I have begun a lovely insomina habit recently.
Hot showers?
Zen meditation?
Both manage to relax me for long enough to feel better, but not always actual sleep. Then I get bored. Then I look at the clock. Again. And figure out how many minutes I have until I have to be up. Again and not enough.
Sorry, man, I honestly think you just get to accept the fates and be live for longer than you feel is good.
Combination of many of the above suggestions plus a few more:
warm bath, hot soup, flannel pajamas, television on low in the background (or classical music), a favorite book with an outcome you love, and keep your feet warm. I hope some of these will be helpful (and hopefully you’re already in bed sleeping right now).
