Can't find a French Cut green bean to save my life

The title pretty much says it. I have been looking for a week for frozen French cut green beans, and so far, no one in my town has them.My aging father, my niece, and my sister have joined me on the quest. It seems that with the popularity of Green Bean Casserole during the holidays, there’d be a surplus in the freezer case.

Is there a nationwide green bean shortage? Anyone else having difficulty finding a Thanksgiving food item?

That happened to me once, in Chicago. I think those just fly off the shelves in anticipation of that cream of glop known as Green Bean Casserole. I’m making mine with toasted almonds.

Me too! But I refuse to use horrid canned green beans. It will sully the holiday meal!

Can you find normal green beans and french cut them yourself?

We had the same problem yesterday, only it was the cream of mushroom soup that was in short supply. We bought the last two cans in the store. I think they restock on Wednesday though.

Green bean casserole is a lot more popular than I thought. But then, I do live in Iowa, where there’s probably no lime Jello left either.

Mom? Is that you? I’ll pay you $50 if you skip the shredded carrots in that lime jello.

My sister suggested that. I couldn’t even find the standard green beans. I think the French cut is probably a bit tedious, but it can be done. I think that’s what the weird-ass end of a potato peeler is for. Mine, however, looks a bit funky.

Man, if you were to stock up on those staples that always end up in short supply and are kinds the things that we guys get sent to the store for at around 10:00am on Thanksgiving (pie crusts, cream soups, cranberry can shaped jell stuff, etc.) you could open a very profitable business.

Is the store out of green beans? Come on down to Uncle Cluricaun’s Fuck You Holiday Price-Gouge-o-Rama where we have them for $25. Muaahahahaha!

Your glop or your green beans?

I’ve got a bag in my freezer I bought last week. Since you’re my pal, $42 and they’re yours.

It’s Green Bean casserole! How can their possibly be a difference between canned and frozen? Seriously.

The frozen beans have a firmer texture, I think. And they’re a brighter green. But do they have to be French cut?

Kalhoun, no carrots! This is the one with cream cheese, whipped cream, pears, maraschino cherries, and pecans. If I can find the frakkin’ recipe.

This is why I got my beans a month ago. I could be persuaded to part with them…for a price. Mwuhhaahhaahhauuuahauuhaahahhaaaa!

i love french cut green beans and have them in stock all year round. i don’t like fungus so no bean glop for me.

Frozen green beans have that squeaky texture that I can’t stand in a green bean casserole. Canned ONLY for GBC!

And french cut green beans are terrible for GBC. They’re so thin already that mixing them with the mushroom soup turns them to glop. I have six cans in my pantry that I’ll never use. My husband bought them because he didn’t realize that there are different kinds of green beans. If it wasn’t so late in the game, I would send them to you!

Wait, what? Do they even make french cut green beans in the freezer section? I have NEVER seen them and I don;t even think it’s be possible, cutting the beans longitudinally almost certainly makes it impossible to freeze them effectively. That’s far too much cell damage, the fluids will just leak out of the beans when they thaw/cook.

Green Bean Casserole is made with canned green beans, always has been.

Well, if they don’t make frozen French-cut green beans, then I’ve been imagining buying them for the past 20 years, and the ones currently in my freezer are but a mirage.

:urk:

'scuse me.

Green glop is a family tradition with the French’s onions since at least 1964. She is still willing to cook. Better her rather than me.

As though you could tell in a casserole.
May I suggest fresh green beans, a little garlic, some sesame oil?
