Some of the big payroll processors do (as others have noted) have the ability to download W2s into Turbotax etc, and you shouldn’t need all the info, just stuff like your SSN, the federal EIN etc. If the OP’s employer uses one of those services that should be sufficient (and as others noted, you can get the EIN etc. from a co-worker). It may also be available on your pay stubs.
There’s also something called a substitute W2. I don’t know the rules involved with using one, just that it exists. The information should be on your last pay stub of the year. And of course with pretax deductions you need to make sure you’re putting the right figures for FICA-eligible income etc., as those are quite different from your gross income.
Got a duplicate W-2 from the HR at my employer today. It did take about 15 seconds for her to print one out.
I saw how she did it. Was the same thing I tried to do 2 days ago using my Apple computer…didn’t work for me because that web site only supports Windows.
And Internet Explorer…
Oh well. I still like my new Apple computer anyway, even though occasionally there can be downsides.
I have no idea what you tried to do, but she probably had direct access to the company’s payroll file and printed out from there. Either that or the HR department has their own (virtual) copy of it since they get requests for all kinds of employee financial info all the time. Any time you apply for a loan/lease/apartment etc and they need to verify your income, they call her and she pulls up either last year’s W-2 and/or your last 4 paystubs.
