I’m at home all day alone just working on computer. I get ‘off’ of work before my wife and when I leave my office I grab them put them in a case in my pocket and go downstairs. I’ll have them handy for when my wife gets home.
And frankly, they are uncomfortable. Make my ears itch. They all are/have
Yeah, thanks I know. I had know idea what the problem was to start with. Blue tooth hearing aids are new to me. You still have to have your phone and talk ‘at’ it. Sort of like speaker phones. I despise the speaker phone option.
I much prefer Blue Tooth headsets. That way I don’t have to carry the phone like a mic. I can just stick it in my pocket, or wander away from it.
I don’t have hearing aids, but I’m surprised by that. I figured the hearing aids themselves would’ve acted as the mic and transmitted the sound back to your phone.
A youtuber I watch sometimes brings up his hearing aids. In one of his videos, he mentioned that his BT hearing aids can use his phone as a mic, so he can put his phone closer to the person talking to him. That way the phone picks up more of the person talking to him and less of everyone else in the room/bar/restaurant, making it much easier for him to hear them.
I just thought that was an interesting feature, but it also makes me wonder if there’s a setting you can change, either on your phone or the hearing aids, to use the mic in the hearing aids instead of the phone, when on a phone call. I presume the hearing aids have their own mic, right? That is, if you’re not near your phone, the hearing aids still function as regular hearing aids, right? Or course it’s entirely possible that they weren’t designed, and aren’t able, to do it in the first place.
I was surprised too. I’ve talked to my audiologist about it. Can’t be done. The aids where 6k so not cheep at all.
I’ll have to investigate that more. Doesn’t seem right, does it.
Yeah, mine have 4 different basic settings. Music is one for instance. Outdoors is another. I can change the volume of them from my phone. This latest pair is very helpful for my wife, as I don’t have to have the TV or music turned up too loud. I can also adjust treble and bass.
One of the things I discovered with my Bluetooth hearing aids is that I can listen to streaming audio and also mute the hearing aids to filter out background noise. So it kind of makes sense that you can’t use the hearing aid mics for calls, because if they’re muted then they won’t pick up your voice. But it seems like they should be able to use the HA mics by default but switch to the phone mic if the HAs are muted.
And @enipla, no offense I was just trying to be funny with the “why aren’t they in your ears?” comment. Mine are in from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. Last audiologist appt, I asked why there is a “Find my hearing aids” function on the app. I said “They’re either in my ears or on my dresser.” She said “That’s not for people like you. Some people don’t wear them all the time and might forget where they left them.”
Anyway I feel like we’re getting off on a tangent here so sorry for the hijack.
