"Caper" is good

Just a recommendation for other comic book fans. Check out the new DC series Caper by Judd Winick and Farel Dalrymple. It’s a twelve issue mini-series (currently up to issue four) about two Jewish gangsters in 1900 San Francisco. Read it now or wait until Martin Scorsese buys the film rights.

It is quite good, although from reading the tease at the end of issue #4, apparently it jumps to the 1970’s with #5.

Issue #5 – WOW!

I just read the first issue of the new storyline (set in Hollywood in the 70’s), and it was one of the best single issues I’ve ever read. The ending wasn’t a surprise, but it was moving nonetheless because in just the dozen or so pages he had to set the scene he made me like these characters and become emotionally invested in their lives. (Plus, they’re funny.) And of course, who doesn’t love John Severin’s art, which does wonders here to personify the characters and get across their emotions.
