OK, here’s a technical question, let’s say that I’m using Winamp or Windows Media Player to watch a video file, I have paused the file on a frame that I like,
is there any way to transfer that frame and save it as an image file free of the video?
I have tried every avenue I can think of, but none seem to work…
Assuming the regular Windows printscreen (Windows key+print screen button, then paste in MS paint), which it does for me, you can try the freeware VirtualDub.
Install it and open your video via the File menu. Use the scrollbar on the bottom to find the frame you want. Go to the Video menu and choose the option “Copy source frame to clipboard.” Then just paste it into MS Paint or a similar program and save.
I should have mentioned that I’ve tried the second method before, but what keeps on happening, is that I will paste the image into Paint, but the image won’t stay. If I press play on the video, the image on Paint changes as well. If I close the video player, the image on Paint goes completely black.
What’s up with that? That’s the crux of the problem.
Your video player is using hardware acceleration. I’m not clear on the details of why, exactly, but disabling hardware acceleration in your video player should allow you to do a normal screen capture with the PrintScreen key.
