car battery acid and gas/diesel fuel?

What would be the result of dumping a quart or two of undiluted car battery acid into a holding tank of fuel oil? Would it mix with the fuel and dilute or settle to the bottom of the tank and eat a hole in the steel? Or would it float on the top of the fuel and eat a hole through the middle of the tank? I know that this type of acid mixes with water so I don’t think that it would be diluted by the fuel.

I’m writing a short story and the “good” guys need a diversion to overpower their captors and I’d rather have the solution be somewhat McGiver-like but still based in possible fact.
