Some basic questions first, OK?
How old was the movie? Were there just the three pedals? Was it an American film? Do you remember the make of the car? Was the accelarator large like today’s cars have or was it more button shaped and smaller? Do you remember the name of the film?
I know the Model T had a really (by today’s standard) funky pedal setup:

Since the Model T was the most popular car back in the day, I wouldn’t be surprised if other manufacturers copied their controls as well.
