Are there any? I’d love to be able to pick up a car in one city and return it in another (Columbus/Detroit), but if I have to pay a couple hundred bucks as a drop-off fee to do that, I may can the idea and inconvenience myself to return the car to the city where I got it. Which would suck.
I’m asking if anybody knows offhand, as I don’t have time to research each car rental website today.
In my experience it depends on how much they need cars in the destination. If they are short there, they often waive one-way charges. This has happened to me several times.
Something to watch out for is mileage charges. My corporate rates give me unlimited miles, except when I rent one way. Then I have to pay a fee per mile for anything over 50 miles per day. It’s because they know the only reason to do the one way rental is if you’re travelling an appreciable distance. Even if you can get them to waive the drop off charge, make sure the mileage rates don’t change compared to bringing it back to the same location.
