my 1986 pontiac sunbird has been stalling out when i brake once i have driven about 30 miles. at first we thought it may be a collapsing brake hose so we’ve replaced those and have also re-timed the engine. it also doesnt do this EVERY time just seemingly randomly. once it stalls, if started it runs, but stalls out if put back into gear sometimes. usually letting it sit for about a minute will allow it to run regularly. any clues as to what may be wrong?
Is it an automatic?
We had this problem with a couple cars and it was the TCC (torque converter clutch)
Apparently when the car got up to ‘highway’ speed it would lock in overdrive and never release. The car would then stall as it tried and failed to downshift when you stepped on the brake.
