Cardboard box lampshade

The guy next door is turning 65 this year, so he’s fixing up the house so he and his family can spend time in it. (His wife doesn’t want to move up.) He has built a landing outside of the house’s back door. Apparently he thought a three-foot first step was unreasonable. Now that he can use the door, he turns the porch light on.

Mrs. L.A. and I spend time under the covered part of our deck. Our neighbour, being a nice guy, thought that his porch light might adversely affect our ambiance, so he came up with a solution. He mounted a cardboard box on the wall next to the light. I guess the box is about 18 inches in length. The bottom of it faces us. There are two long oval slots on each edge, and a couple in the middle of the bottom. From our perspective, at night, it looks decoratively Asian. So he has all the light for his landing and stairs, and we have something that looks nice in the dark.

I must admit, I thought this was going to be about someone using a cardboard box as an indoor lampshade and the worry of it being a fire hazard. However, this sounds like something that works for everyone involved. Very good!

It still sounds like a fire hazard.

It’s not over the fixture. It’s next to it so that it blocks the light shining toward us, but allows full light to the area in front of his door, and the steps.
