Cardinals Manager La Russa Is Busted for DUI

Story here.

.093 vs. .08? I think that he’ll get off. Breathalyzers aren’t that accurate, are they?

Been a long time since I’ve done DUI defense, and I think there’s a new machine now. Think the tolerance used to be around .005 on the older machine. Prolly not gonna make much difference in this case, since he was found asleep behind the wheel at a stoplight…

And .10 used to be the legal limit in many places. Still, he fell asleep with the SUV in drive. That pretty much proves he was too drunk and/or too tired to be behind the wheel.

Maybe he just missed the signal.

He wasn’t very drunk, but he shouldn’t have been driving and he’s lucky he wasn’t killed.

Apparently, it cycled through twice while he was sitting there… with his foot on the brake. Been there, done that, sadly.

I’m not going to comment on the “why” of it, but I will say that I am very disappointed in the guy. I know someone who plays ball for him, and they respect him as a man.

I hope you’ll allow me, since you already know I think a lot of you, to apologize for making a less than obvious base running reference in a thread about a regrettable act. T’was all. I’m as aware and disappointed as you.

Even more disappointingly, according to this morning’s paper, the crowd stood and applauded for him when he appeared on the field the next day. I felt pretty angry when I saw that. If he’d been caught shoplifting or kicking a dog, they’d hardly have done that. Why is it that drunk driving is considered such a peccadillo? The crowd was acting like the guy is a martyr for having been arrested and having to endure a bit of embarrassment.

I hear they were impressed that he walked up the first base line without falling over.

Ugh. I mean, it’s one thing to stand behind your guy, but it’s not like he’s survived an ordeal or anything. He did something dumb and he won’t even pay much of a price for it.

I can possibly see how someone who makes 30 grand a year could not justify the cost of a taxi home on a night like that (not condoing it, just can see it happen), but this guy is a multimillionaire- he could take a fucking limo, not cab, limo, home and pay someone to take his car home with his fucking *per diem * money. It is unconscionable to think that someone with that kind of money would take such a stupid risk.

ACK! D’oh! :smack: :smack: :smack: I just got it…

Damn, that just wasn’t my morning, was it? It was funny, too.
