Since the Doper community was so ridiculously generous last year, we’re stepping things up this time around.
The Littlest Briston has type-1 diabetes, and she’s getting better and better with taking care of it all the time (Woohoo! She’s finally using an insulin pump!). Probably the biggest factor in her ability to treat herself is the week she spent this summer at Camp Nejeda, a summer camp in north Jersey exclusively for Type-1s. They do an amazing treatment and education program, as well as giving T1D kids a safe environment to do all the usual things you’d find at any regular summer camp.
The place is pricy – $1,000/week, but it’s certainly reasonable considering everything that has to go in to making a place such as this work. Fortunately, they have an amazing grant program, meaning the vast majority of families pay a reduced rate, if anything at all.
In order to be able to help out families with tuition, they have an annual Walkathon fundraiser, and we’re participating this year. Our goal is to hit the mark of paying for one child to be able to attend camp – $1,000. We have a fundraising page set up for this – any and all help would be exceptionally appreciated!
