Career Advice Wanted: Health Care Professionals Only Please.

Note to Mods & Admins:
I am NOT asking for health care advice in this Thread.

The possibility exists that I might be able to get some training soon, that could lead me to a better job.

I was considering Pharmacy Technician. Or, perhaps another Allied Health Care field.

However, I have a fairly regular cough, due to a lung abcess. This will not be operated on, due to it’s non-life-endangering nature, & it’s proximity to the heart.

I’m concerned that somebody will hear my cough, & decide that I’d project a bad image or something.

Will this impact my ability to be hired in the Health Care field?

That depends. Are you coughing like a late stage consumptive or is it an occasional thing?

Are you coughing up blood or sounding like a 3 pack a day smoker first thing in the morning? THAT will not make a good impression on any interviewer.
Why would it matter if you go into health care? We get sick and take medicine, too. If anything, if you do get into allied health, the one thing you are guaranteed to talk about IS your health–and the health of all your co-workers.

Good luck.

Close to the 3 pack a day level, on the bad days.

Short of them not being able to ask if you’re pregnant, I know nothing of what is “kosher” to ask re employment or not. If you are coughing as badly as a chronic bronchitis sufferer all thru the interview, it is up to you to address that in whatever manner you see fit.
We don’t have Xray eyes in healthcare–and “inoperable lung abscess” is not a diagnosis that springs to mind upon hearing someone cough.

Guess I’m saying that I don’t really have any advice for you. Maybe get a second opinion on that abscess–it sounds nasty.
