Carol Channing Marries at 82--Kinda Sweet Story

ATHERTON, Calif. (AP) – Actress Carol Channing tied the knot with her junior high school sweetheart over the weekend, decades after the two drifted apart. Channing, 82, and Harry Kullijian, 83, were married Saturday. One of his friend noticed earlier this year that she had mentioned her one-time beau in her autobiography “Just Lucky, I Guess.” Kullijian’s pal urged him to contact Channing, best known for her role in Broadway’s “Hello, Dolly.” “You’ve got to call Carol tomorrow, Jan. 31,” Kullijian’s friend Mervin Morris told him. “It’s her birthday.” “Call Carol?” Kullijian said, recalling his response. “I thought she was dead.” Channing certainly wasn’t dead, and neither were her feelings for Kullijian. The two picked up where they’d left off decades earlier and were soon engaged. The ceremony took place at Morris’ home in Atherton. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Ron Blanc, who said Channing was delighted. “She told me this is the dream of a lifetime,” Blanc said. “I call this a storybook affair.”

—Even a hard-bitten old cynic like me thinks this is kinda nice. Getting soft in my old age.

That is sweet. Wow, it’s hard to imagine Carol Channing as being the same age as my mom, who is also 82 and in a home for Alzheimer’s. I wonder what CC looks like nowadays?

Mark Harris must be heartbroken! After all, Martha Raye’s estate can’t last forever.

Yes, it is a sweet story. And Carol looks pretty damn good these days. The IMDB has a picture taken ony a month ago.

Jesus, have you ever seen so many face-lifts in one room? The cameraman hadn’t even said, “smile!”

Carol certainly seems to be an “active” girl…IIRC, it was only a few years ago when she was suing for divorce from her last husband claiming he only wanted sex once a year. (The fact that hubby was presumed to be Gay might have had something to do with that.)

I wonder if Carol and Harry will do like Pamela and Tommy Lee and film the honeymoon hijinx…bet ya’ll can’t wait to see them videos, huh?

Seriously, I think it is great that at 82 she’s willing to pony back up to the altar! Good for her!

*“I thought she was dead.” *

It was destiny.

Took me two tries to get correctly read that first sentence. “Carol Channing just married some kid in Junior High? WTF?”

On the Upside: she won’t need to get her jollies riding a roller coaster anymore. (only meaningful US Whosers, sorry!)
